JUST FOR FUN! 14 RANDOM THINGS ABOUT ME!
1-I am a tea drinker. Loose tea, Earl Grey, half a teaspoon of sugar, a squeeze of lemon, and I'm happy. Oh, and it should be in a teacup, not a mug. Mugs are for coffee.
2-People who love me have told me I may be stubborn. I prefer tenacious, which is a nice word for stubborn. My dad used to say hard-headed.
3- I do not understand higher Math or how televisions or cell phones work. While we're at it, let's add X-ray machines, DVDs, the combustion engine, and space travel. However, I am thankful for the people who do understand these things. I like to think that there is a finite amount of space in my brain, most of which is taken up by art, literature, and chocolate.
4-I would love to travel into space. However, NASA may have an issue with me due to #3.
5-I enjoy a good mystery. (again see #3)
6-My father was a private pilot, so I understand how planes fly. I can also read flight maps and weather charts. So take that, NASA!
7-I am terrified of earthworms and have been known to cross the street to avoid one. Eew, just eew.
8- I was not the perfect homeschool mom, but he graduated with honors. Thank you very much!
9-I have been zeroing in on the perfect dark chocolate for many years and will keep you posted.
10-I didn't show up the first two times my husband asked me out. Dumb.
11-I married my excellent and patient (see #10) husband 27 years ago.
12-Jane Austen. Just saying.
13-I was born in Southern New Jersey and ended up in South Carolina by way of Florida.
14-I am a 16-year breast cancer survivor. I rocked that bald head!
15- I love The Lord and my Christian faith.
16-I love teaching young people!
Oops, that was 15!
HI THERE!
I’m Beryl Morgan. I’m an independent teacher who loves everything in the humanities!
I’m a veteran homeschool mom who loves Literature, Art, Civics, and History. I am pleased to say that my homeschooled son, who is now attending college, graduated High School with honors without me ever having to cut into a worm or frog (eew.). Thank you to the science moms who taught my son those skills. I genuinely believe in homeschooling. The choice to homeschool was by far the best choice for our family. I think parents know their children best because they are the best educators.
I've been teaching homeschooled children for over eight years and other classes for young people and adults for 15 years. I love sharing humanity-based subjects with young people. I am constantly amazed by their insight, points of view, challenges, and discussions. I love that my students keep me on my toes by asking challenging questions as they develop new and exciting ideas and opinions.
I am delighted by the sparkle in my students;’ eyes when they “get” something.
Growing up, I had outstanding English, Theater, History, and Art teachers. Those teachers opened my mind to old and new ideas and helped me grow as I realized the beauty around me. They helped me develop critical thinking skills that could apply to all my school subjects. I hope I can do them justice as I teach my students.
I have always been an artsy-craftsy person. I participated in community theater and dance, High School dramas, and musicals from a young age. I was a theater major in college. In my second year of college, a theater arts professor told me, “Actors need to get their hands dirty and learn to swing a hammer!” I wanted a good grade and got my oh-sos-delicate actress hands dirty! Surprisingly, I found myself more interested in the design and art of theater rather than performing. I continued to do design work and work for college and professional theater, including two Summers as Prop Master for the Metropolitan Opera Summer production. My path eventually led me to careers in retail store display, interior design, and event planning.
I am proud to be a digital nerd, although an unexpected one! My husband bought a desktop computer in the dark ages of Windows 95 and AOL: huge, beige, and weighing a ton. I clearly remember saying I didn’t understand why we needed it and would never use it, although email sounded cool. Fast forward a few years, and I was building a website for a non-profit and dreaming of fonts and Photoshop.
My goal from Beryl Morgan Homeschool, Humanities, is to assist parents by teaching the best topics and subjects I know.
