Ask your student if they speak Latin.
In Latin, that's "Loquerisne Latine?" Most likely, the answer will be "No," potentially accompanied by a quizzical look.
Now try asking them, "Do you want to speak Latin?" which in Latin is "Visne Latine loqui?" and again, you'll probably get a resounding "No" along with the same bemused expression.
It's understandable. Most students don't think they want to learn to speak Latin.. However, the truth is that we already use Latin more than we realize, especially in the English language, which has many Latin connections. Hence, it's crucial for students to have a basic understanding of Latin as it can significantly expand their vocabulary. Latin can be particularly helpful as students encounter new words in Literature, Math, Science, Law, Government, and even in many foreign language classes. Additionally, this class is a wonderful tool for SAT Vocabulary prep. BOth Latin I and Latin II are also suitable for upper Middle school (7th and 8th grade)
